Who is AgriSompo?
December 28, 2020 was the first day of AgriSompo’s existence, and it was just the beginning of our journey to define who we are as an organization. Our brand name, organizational structure, processes, and so much more were instantly changed, creating a new foundation upon which to build. During AgriSompo's formative days, there was a lot of planning and aspirational talk about where we intended to go and who we wanted to be. As we progressed into the following months, leadership was put in place, teams came together, and the AgriSompo culture and structure we know today started to take shape. Each decision resulted in an opportunity to change and to communicate that change to our stakeholders: agents and policyholders.
As part of our continuing focus on how we can grow together as an organization, we held a series of quarterly leadership meetings throughout 2023. The first meeting was held in April at our headquarters in Lenexa, Kansas, and in additional to our Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs) and executive group, we were joined by Jim Shea, CEO of Sompo International, and Nick Burnett, CFO of Sompo International. It was a great opportunity to review many of the functional aspects of our business for those of us at AgriSompo as well as Sompo International. Jim and Nick’s attendance at the meeting was instrumental as we continue to build a transparent and positive connection with our parent company. When we work together and understand each other, we are inevitably more successful.
One of the highlights was the first opportunity our RVPs had to give a detailed review of their regions’ business, and it was greatly insightful for all.
Our second quarterly meeting kicked off our 2024 planning during the first week of June in Lenexa. We had an expanded group of all senior leadership, all RVPs, our international leaders, our executive group, Jim Shea, Nick Burnett, and even Hara-San, the Chief Human Resources Officer of Sompo Holdings. Our focus during this meeting was to make sure we were all aligned as we create our 2024 plan. One of the important areas of alignment includes service standards in every aspect of our business from underwriting to claims auditing and everywhere in between. These standards are now set; they are what we will hold ourselves accountable to and what we will strive to beat. These standards are achievable, measurable, and extremely necessary as we continue to focus on improving our service.
Another exciting part of our week in Lenexa was the kickoff of our summer intern program and the welcoming of six new field claims apprentices. Our leadership team joined the interns and apprentices for breakfast. As the team went around the room, welcoming the new group, I had a moment where it struck me. Who we are is a lot more real and much less aspirational than it was a year or two years ago. Who we are is evident in our actions and reactions on a daily basis. Who we are is an engaged, passionate, and excited group of people who believe in each other. Who we are is a team that continues to grow together, focused on today but looking toward the future. All of that shined through as the members of our leadership team took turns introducing themselves and sharing bits of wisdom. I am so proud to be on this team and proud not of who AgriSompo will be, but who we are today.
